Building tech from Medellin: Community, AI, and new products from Latin America

While many developers look for opportunities outside of Latin America, some are building from within. Erix is one of them. Erix is an Android developer, tech community builder, and co-founder of Crexative. Based in Medellin, Colombia, he works at the intersection of software development, artificial intelligence, and digital product creation, all while fostering spaces for more developers in LatAm to learn, build, and connect with the tech ecosystem.

From learning to code to building with impact

His journey in tech began like that of many developers in Latin America: driven by curiosity, long hours in front of the computer, and a constant desire to understand how things work behind the software. Over time, he specialized in mobile Android development, but soon discovered that writing code was only part of what he really wanted to do. What truly motivated him was building things that drive impact. That curiosity led him to get deeply involved in the tech ecosystem. During his university years, he started leading developer communities, organizing workshops, tech talks, and events to help other students learn programming and break into the software development world. Over time, his community work expanded beyond the university. Today, he is an active participant in Medellin's tech ecosystem, helping create spaces where developers can learn, share ideas, and connect with new opportunities. In recent years, the city has solidified its position as one of LatAm's emerging tech hubs, boasting an increasingly active community of developers, startups, and digital product creators. But for Erix, community building was just part of the journey. He also wanted to build products.

Building tech from Colombia

With that vision in mind, he teamed up with two friends and partners to co-found Crexative-a tech initiative born in Colombia focused on helping companies grow through software development, automation, and new AI-driven solutions. Through Crexative, the team doesn't just work with enterprise clients; they also explore building their own digital products. One of those projects is Xplid, an app currently in its beta phase. The platform is designed to help people seamlessly organize and split shared expenses, especially for trips, nights out with friends, or everyday group costs. The idea behind the app is to simplify something that often gets complicated: figuring out who paid for what and how much everyone owes. To solve this, Xplid offers a cross-platform mobile experience, combining a clean interface with new tech capabilities-including artificial intelligence-to automate calculations, organize expenses, and streamline group payments.

The official launch is schedule for the coming months on the app stores. You can check out project at: xplid.com

What he is building now

Today, his work lives at the intersection of three areas that are transforming how technology is created:

  1. Community. building: Fostering spaces where developers can learn, share knowledge, and connect with new opportunities within the LatAm tech ecosystem.
  2. Exploring AI & new development paradigms: Experimenting with tools, automation, and new workflows that are changing how developers build software.
  3. Creating tech products: Building enterprise solutions and developing new digital products like Xplid through Crexative.

A new generation of builders in Latin America

For Erix, the message is clear:

"Now more than ever, we as developers in Latin America have to opportunity to build products for the world. It's not just about learning technology, but using it to create." From Medellin, that is exactly the mission he continues to push forward: building, experimenting, and helping more developers in the region transition from just writing code to creating products that impact the world.
